In the mining industry, it is often necessary to investigate the possible presence of naturally occurring asbestos (NOA) in mining areas to anticipate potential fibrous mineral occurrences that may affect production. Our assessment of asbestos potential includes systematic sampling and determining the petrofacies of asbestos-bearing rocks. This approach enables more predictive modeling of asbestos in the study area, helping to ensure safe and efficient mining operations.
Asbestos Risk Management Guidelines for Mines
In 2016, the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health published the ”Asbestos Risk Management Guidelines for Mines”, in which Petri from Mikronia Consulting as one of the authors. According to the guidelines, before starting excavation, it is advisable to assess the asbestos and fibrous potential of the area to be excavated to ensure safe working conditions.
Also, during excavation, the material being excavated should be monitored for possible asbestos or fibrous occurrences.
